The Newborn
Intensive Care Nursery at St. Luke's Childrens' Hospital in Boise, Idaho is the
first Nursery to have earned the NFI certification as NIDCAP Nursery. The
certification ceremony took place on December 9, 2008. Heidelise Als, PhD, NFI
President, presented the inaugural NIDCAP Nursery Certification Award to Karen
Smith, BSN, MEd, NIDCAP Professional and NIDCAP Trainer at the St. Luke's NIDCAP
Training Center. The award recognizes and bears testimony to the excellence of
the NICU at St. Luke's and its commitment to and integration of the principles
of the Newborn Individualized Developmental Care and Assessment Program (NIDCAP)
for infants and their families, and for the nursery's professionals and its
staff.

The Newborn Intensive Care Nursery of The Children's
Regional Hospital at Cooper University Hospital in Camden, New Jersey is the
second Nursery to have achieved NIDCAP Nursery Certification. The week long
celebration began on July 28, 2009 with an award ceremony attended by Heidelise
Als, PhD, NFI President, who presented the NIDCAP Nursery Certification Award.
The award was accepted on behalf of the Newborn Intensive Care Unit by Joanne
Fox, RNC, BSN and gretchen Lawhon, RN, PhD, Clinical Nurse Scientist and
Director of the Mid-Atlantic NIDCAP Center. Hospital administration, NICU staff
as well as many families of current and former patients of the NICU were in
attendance at the celebration. Several events and activities were held
throughout the week to celebrate the achievement. The award recognizes and bears
testimony to the excellence of the NICU at The Children's Regional Hospital at
Cooper University Hospital and its commitment to and integration of the
principles of the Newborn Individualized Developmental Care and Assessment
Program (NIDCAP) for infants and their families, the nursery's professional
staff and the community of Camden, New Jersey.
